Lindell: "After the double bogey on the 11th hole, the round went downhill."

Oliver Lindell ultimately finished T46 in the Alfred Dunhill Championship. The Finnish player dropped three places in the rankings due to a lacklustre back nine, and also fell nearly 30 places in his final round. However, an excellent second round meant he finished with a total score of -6 in the three-day tournament.

Lindell started his morning early on the unfinished first fairway. He spent the whole of yesterday at the clubhouse waiting for a decision on whether play would go ahead. In the end, the third round was postponed until Sunday, and the fourth round was cancelled. Overall, Lindell was satisfied with his performance on Sunday as well.

“I played well all day, but once again I missed all my putts. It was the same story as on the opening day. I missed a few fairways and the approaches that weren’t on target ended up in places where they shouldn’t have been. For the most part, however, I was left behind by the others this week on the greens. Today, I got to watch Shaun Norris putt well for the entire round,” said Lindell.

Norris, who played in the same group as Lindell, achieved the day’s best result (-8) and made it to the play-off for the competition victory. In the play-off, however, his compatriot Jayden Schaper clinched the victory with an eagle on the 18th hole. The pair played a total score of -16.

The front nine went smoothly, with a score of -2, but after a double bogey on the 11th hole, Lindell was unable to make any more birdies. After that, two bogeys were added to the card in addition to the pars.

“The 11th hole started off badly, and I had to take a lay-up from a difficult spot. The flag was still in a challenging position, so I tried to play my third shot just to the middle of the green. The shot opened up to the right, and I putted three times from there. After that, the rest of the round was a complete washout.”

Although the competition week was disrupted both in terms of the game and the conditions, the Porvoo native also showed flashes of the good form we saw last season. The competition continues with one more event before the Christmas break.

“Next week we’ll be working hard in Mauritius before the Christmas break.”
