Oliver Lindel played his third round at the KLM Open with a score of +11 and is currently ranked T70 in the competition. Saturday's round was his weakest so far, dropping the Finn a whopping 64 places on the leaderboard.
"Quite a blow for a change, it came as a surprise even to me. Nothing came of it today. There were difficult flag positions, and I couldn't get to the birdie spots. Every missed shot ended up in the worst possible place. My swing wasn't much different from previous days."
The round got off to a miserable start when Lindell failed to capitalise on his early birdie opportunities, resulting in only easy par scores. On the fourth hole, which has been one of the most challenging holes of the week, the Finn's opening shot slipped into the water, resulting in a double bogey. His putting was not weaker than earlier in the week, even though the result suggested otherwise.
The difficulties on the front nine continued on the eighth green, where Lindell's one-metre par putt failed to find the cup, and a water hazard on the next hole resulted in the second double bogey of the round. As a result, the front nine ended up six strokes over par.
"Yes, the opening shot on the fourth hole was the only bad shot on the front nine. The openings on the eighth and ninth holes were a couple of metres too far to the left and ended up in the worst possible place."
In addition to a triple bogey on the 17th hole, Takaysi recorded two bogeys, sealing the worst round of his DPWT career. His approaches on the back nine were quite far from the flag, and Lindell was unable to take advantage of a few good birdie opportunities.
"I hit some good shots on the back nine, but if you miss every putt from over a metre, you're not going to get anywhere. And on the par 3 holes, I had to hit enough shots today," Lindell said, reflecting on his unfortunate round.
Lindell did not start his round until 5:20 p.m. Finnish time, which meant that he did not finish until late in the evening.
"At the end, I almost didn't even make it to the finish line. I hit two backup balls from the tee on the last hole, because I wasn't sure if my first tee shot was in play.
Scotland's Connor Syme is leading the competition with a score of -10.
Lindell's tee time for the final round on Sunday is 11:04 Finnish time.
