Oliver Lindell managed to play 10 holes on Thursday before lightning interrupted the Hainan Classic tournament. The round started on the tenth tee, and the Porvoo native finished the 10 holes with a score of -1. This currently puts him in 43rd place. The par recorded for hole 10 was actually a bogey, which kicked off the day.
"Those 10 holes were good today. Nothing but fairway and green hits. I just couldn't get my putts to drop on the 10th hole, but it was a reasonable start," Lindell said of the interrupted round.
After the bogey on the opening hole, two birdies were recorded on the scorecard, the first of which was an eagle attempt. In addition to the two birdies, there were seven pars on the card. However, the statistics show that his shooting is better than last week and he has a good chance of success in this week's competition.
"Two putts for birdie on the 12th and 18th holes, a 193-metre iron shot to just over a metre and then a putt in. Tomorrow we have 26 holes ahead of us, if we can get them played. Hopefully we'll get to play – it was nice now that I was completely out of the game. Thunderstorms are forecast for every day," pondered the Porvoo native.
The temperature has been well over 30 degrees Celsius, but Lindell described it as perfect golf weather. However, he is uncertain about the rest of the week, as the thunderstorms began at the same time of day as on Wednesday, and similar conditions are forecast for tomorrow.
The weeks are not alike, as the results of the other Finn, Tapio Pulkkinen, were completely opposite. His seventh place in the last competition is now in danger of being followed by elimination, as his score of +4 only entitles him to T140. At the top of the competition with a score of -6 are Kristoffer Reitan of Norway, Haotong Li of China and Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand.
The competition continues tomorrow at 2:00 a.m. Finnish time. Lindell will continue his competition with the second tee, having started today from the tenth tee.
