Lindell's best round of the week earned him another great placing – "Hole in one and an Omega watch just a couple of centimetres away"

Oliver Lindell played his best round of the competition at the Omega European Masters on Sunday and is climbing back up the leaderboard to an impressive position. His final round score of 65 (-5) brings his total score to -13, which currently puts him in 17th place. He is just two strokes away from his third consecutive top 10 finish.

"Overall, my game was good today, even though the ball did tend to stray a little off the tee. I came very close to a hole in one on the 13th hole, when the ball landed a few centimetres short of the cup. The Omega clock was just a couple of centimetres away. The week was consistent overall, and fortunately, this morning's wake-up call is now over for a while," Lindell said with relief.

A top ranking was still possible on the last hole, but when the approach shot ended up in the water, Lindell's card was marked with only his second bogey of the day. However, the card also included five birdies and an eagle on the 9th hole. This came after a magnificent second shot, leaving the eagle putt about a metre short.

"On the last hole, I hit a good approach shot and thought the ball would go in the hole. However, the distance was not quite right and the ball ended up spinning into the water. After that, I hit a crazy lob wedge to the flag and got away with a bogey. On the ninth hole, I hit a spoon with my second shot and didn't even know that the ball went a metre, because I hit it over the forest and couldn't see the green at all.

A top 20 finish will again bring a good number of ranking points with the season's climax, the finals, in mind. The competition continues next week.

"It's been a good week, and I'm happy with this finish. The result isn't quite enough to secure a place in the BMW Championship, but that's still up for grabs next week. Tomorrow morning we're heading to Ireland for the Irish Open."

South Africa's Thriston Lawrence (-22) is leading the competition and heading for victory. He started the day with three bogeys but turned things around with an eagle on the sixth hole. Sami Välimäki (-18) is just one stroke behind second place after the 15th hole.
