Oliver Lindell is playing his third consecutive week of golf, as he will be competing in the DP World Tour event in Mauritius this week. The previous two weeks have not been hugely successful, but the Finn has steadily made the cut in both competitions.
This week, Lindell is among the ten strongest names on the list of participants, as the field is expected to be weaker than in previous competitions. With good play, it is certainly possible to improve on his best career ranking. However, Lindell himself does not set any specific ranking goals for himself.
“We know that on paper we’ll have the weakest field of the season, but we have a special week ahead of us and quite a challenge to overcome. With a good game plan, we have four days, and we’ll see how far that takes us. It’s nice to get in one more race before the long Christmas break,” said Lindell.
The Porvoo native performed well in last year’s competition in Mauritius. This year, however, the competition will be held at Heritage La Reserve Golf Links, which is a new course for him. This year’s competition course is longer than last year’s, but the links course has clear hitting spots.
“There are a couple of short par fours here that can be hit onto the green, and a few par fives should be easily hit with two strokes. The wind will apparently be really strong every day. It has been blowing at 3-4 miles per hour during the practice days. You have to start the ball quite far to the side from the tee. It is a tight course in general, and it will demand a lot from the tee to the green.”
Lindell will tee off on Thursday at 9:40 a.m. Finnish time. He will be playing alongside Alex Fitzpatrick from England and Ryan Van Der Klis from South Africa in the opening rounds.
