Oliver Lindell played an exceptional 32 holes at the Omega European Masters in Switzerland on Saturday, after yesterday's round was interrupted on the fifth green. The day began with a birdie putt on the fifth green at Crans Montana. Lindell played his second round to a score of -4 and rose to the top ten. However, in the third round, which was the second round of the day, the strain of the day began to show. Lindell shares 26th place with a total score of -8.
"Yes, I'm starting to feel the end. I've been on the course from six in the morning until eight in the evening every day of the competition. It hasn't gone quite as well as the other field," Lindell lamented his fate.
Lindell's first round of the day went wonderfully, with five birdies and one bogey, and his swing felt excellent. His thoughts after the opening round were positive. Lindell was also hoping for a strong start to his second round of the day to keep his top position within reach.
"A really strong performance in the opening round. I didn't manage to sink any bonus birdies, but my performance was consistently solid. A few easy mistakes cost me, but they're bound to happen," Lindell commented after his opening round.
In the second round, however, fatigue began to set in, and the Finn did not get the strong start he had hoped for in his third round. The second round of the day did not go as planned, and a few wayward opening shots resulted in unfortunate bogeys on the scorecard. However, Lindell pulled himself together nicely at the end of a long day and managed to make two birdies on the back nine before the round was interrupted due to darkness.
"In the second round of the day, my shots were a bit all over the place, and I just didn't have enough power at that point. I managed to get a few good birdies at the end, and I hope that tomorrow I can get a low score so that I can still leave this competition with a good taste in my mouth."
South Africa's Thriston Lawrence took the lead with a score of -17. Just two strokes behind him are another Finnish player who made the cut, Sami Välimäki, and Matt Fitzpatrick. Lindell is only four strokes behind the players tied for sixth place in a tight competition.
Lindell will return to the course at 8:50 a.m. Finnish time to play the last hole of the third round, after which the starting lists for the final round will be redrawn.
